Spratling Silver at the Museum Shop
William Spratling is widely credited with revitalizing silver design in Taxco, Mexico, and helping establish the city as an international center for silversmithing in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Drawing on pre-Columbian forms and modern design principles, his work shaped a distinct aesthetic that continues to influence silversmithing today.

A Rare Collection in Texas
The San Antonio Museum of Art is proud to be the only stockist of Spratling silver in Texas. Our collection is especially meaningful thanks to our direct relationship with the family of one of Spratling’s apprentices—an extraordinary connection to the artist’s legacy that makes these pieces even more special.
SAMA has a longstanding relationship with Spratling’s work. In 2002, the Museum organized Maestros de Plata: Spratling and Mexico's Silver Renaissance, a major traveling exhibition on Spratling and his influence. Works by Spratling and related materials are also represented in the Museum’s permanent collection, reflecting the enduring importance of his design contributions and ties to the region.
