Still Brewing Art: Making the San Antonio Museum of Art
Edited by Jessica Powers, with contributions by Regina Palm
Still Brewing Art traces the San Antonio Museum of Art’s story, from its origins as the Lone Star Brewery in the city’s flourishing 19th-century brewing industry to the ongoing transformation of the Museum’s campus and the surrounding neighborhood. Regina Palm’s essay charts the adaptive reuse of the historic brewery and the Museum’s place at the heart of the revitalized Museum Reach district just north of downtown San Antonio.
Featuring 40 artworks, with behind-the-scenes stories about the collection’s growth and conservation, Still Brewing Art also highlights the remarkable breadth of SAMA’s collection of nearly 30,000 objects. Spanning continents and centuries—from ancient Egypt to contemporary artists, Asia to the Americas, Renaissance painting to African sculpture—this volume offers a fresh look at beloved favorites and rediscovered treasures.
