Description

Named after the town of Mata Ortiz (near the archaeological site of Casas Grandes in the Mexican state of Chihuahua), this vase is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery style propagated by artist Juan Quezada CeladoCelado learned how to recreate the ancient pottery and by the mid 1970s was not only selling his works, but was also teaching family and friends how to make it. Through Spencer MacCallum and later with the help of Walt Parks and Mexican traders, Celado was able to penetrate the US market and by 1990, the pottery was being shown in museums, other cultural institutions, and sold in fine art galleries.

This stunning vase has a raised, texture to the outside with a geometric lip, one side looks like a set of stairs and the other side like a cutout arrow.  Very unique. Can tantalize your sense of touch. Very much a statement piece, would be a fantastic way to start any collection or enhance your collection. Comes with stand.
